KUVO/KVJZ public radio, affiliated with NPR and a part of Rocky Mountain PBS, has served the community since 1985 with jazz, blues, news and a weekend lineup of culturally rich diverse programming. The station is on 89.3FM Denver, 89.7FM Breckenridge, 88.5FM Vail and online at kuvo.org.
We broadcast the very best in jazz, Latin jazz and blues - in addition to fifteen locally-produced, host-inspired, culturally diverse programs. These inlcude Latin and Native American programs, Brazilian music. and a Gospel show. Music shows are integrated with NPR news, our local morning program First Take with Lando and Chavis, and special features. We air several nationally-syndicated programs from NPR, including Piano Jazz and Jazzfrom Lincoln Center.
KUVO features live broadcasts of local high school and collegiate musicians, as well as national touring artists, from its Phyllis A. Greer Performance Studio. Our High School / Collegiate Series has aired for 17 years; more than 3,300 young musicians have performed live, on-the-air from KUVO. We are an active participant in the Denver and Colorado cultural scenes, supporting and promoting musicians, as well as other creative performers; taking part in many local events, festivals and community happenings.
KUVO was Colorado's first FM station to broadcast in Hybrid Digital (HD) and we are now broadcasting three separate streams: the main KUVO programming, available over the airwaves and streaming over the Internet, and two HD streaming stations. HD2 provides Jazz with Bob Parlocha, Classical 24, The Dianne Rehm Show, and other national NPR programs. HD3, The Other Side of KUVO, is an eclectic music mix including folk, bluegrass, CelticWorld, ambient chill, electronica, blues, progressive country, and even a little modern jazz.
KUVO has won many national and local awards, including Major Market Jazz Station of the Year (2005, 2006) from JazzWeek Magazine.
