Latino Americans is a story of immigration and redemption, of anguish and celebration, of the gradual construction of a new American identity that connects and empowers millions of people today.

Episode 3: War and Peace, and Episode 4: The New Latinos air Tuesday, September 24 at 7pm.

Preview of Episode 3: War and Peace Service during the war allows Latinos to make unprecedented gains in civil rights but the journey is far from over.

Professor and Chair of the Chicana/o Studies Department at Metropolitan State University of Denver, Ramon del Castillo is also an activist and poet. Here, he recites his poem, Take Me Back to Aztlan. Aztlan is a term used to descibe both the territory that Mexico lost to the United States in 1848 as a consequence of the Mexican-American War, and the need to preserve the original Mexican culture of those lands.

Actress, vocalist and on-air host at Denver public radio station KUVO, Debra Gallegos talks (and sings!) about the tradition of serenading friends and loved ones on their birthday with the song Las Mañanitas.

Actress Rita Moreno talks about her experience during the filming of West Side Story and the prejudices she faced in Hollywood. Moreno is the only Hispanic and one of the few performers to have won an Emmy, a Grammy, an Oscar, and a Tony, and was the second Puerto Rican to win an Academy Award.
